4/11/2019 10:51:55 PM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 11: A large number of displaced Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) residing in Nagrota and adjoining areas failed to cast their votes during the first phase of election for Kashmir's Baramulla-Kupwara parliamentary constituency on Thursday.
Sources said that despite filling up M-forms as per the requisite norms for migrant voters to exercise their franchise outside the valley, several displaced KPs could not trace their names in the voters' list.
KP migrants leveled serious allegations that it was a deliberate attempt that a large number of KP migrants have been restrained from right to vote.
In their grievances some said that several voters have been figured with wrong insertion in their names or parentage which was a difficult task for a voter to identify himself or herself before the polling authorities.
Moreover it had been also noticed that online serial number of migrant voters were not matching up with of those hand books were made available within polling stations. The tedious process led to more time for migrant voters to trace their names from the list.
Sources revealed that the large number of voters returned back to their homes as they could not trace their names in the list of registered voters.
On the side lines of a polling station at Jagti township, a migrant voter said that due to discrepancies in the lists, a large number of old age voters could not stand up in queue for up to several hours and finally returned back to their homes devoid of casting their votes.
As many as 4 polling booths were arranged within the jurisdictions of Nagrota area for Kashmiri migrant voters. Sources said that more than 220 voters were registered within polling station at Government Migrant HSS Nagrota and around 208 voters were registered at polling booth at Government Migrant Middle School Jagti township, similarly 939 and 763 voters respectively were registered at other two polling booths positioned at Government Higher Secondary School at Jagti for migrants to exercise their franchise.
