Oppression in Jammu, full freedom in Kashmir
Martyrdom of Chanderkant
4/13/2019 12:49:50 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 12: Terrorists again struck on April 9 and attacked RSS leader Chandrakant and his PSO, Rajinder Kumar. They attacked them almost within the premises of the Kishtwar hospital, heart of the sensitive town. Rajinder kumar died on the spot while Chanderkant died a few hours later despite the best efforts put in by doctors to save his precious life.
April 9 attack was the third terror attack in Kishtwar in just five months. The other two were the one leading to the martyrdom of Parihar brothers, including senior BJP leader Anil Parihar, and snatching of a rifle from the PSO of none other than Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar. The PSO was later on suspended.
The gruesome killing of Chanderkant and Rajinder Kumar outraged the whole nation. The people of Jammu province felt all the more shocked as the memories of the gruesome killing of the Parihar brothers were still fresh to be forgotten and the police had failed to nab their killers. They protested.
District administration imposed curfew in Kishtwar to bar the angry people from holding protest demonstrations and have a glimpse of the martyred Chandrakant. So much so, it didn't allow the mourners to even attend the cremation of Chanderkant. In Jammu also, the police pounced upon students of Jammu University, who were holding protest against the targeting and selective killing of the RSS leader and his PSO. They were just demanding an inquiry into the gory episode.
In Kashmir, supporters of the slain terrorists in their 1000s join their funeral processions and raise pro-Pakistan and pro-azadi and anti-India slogans under the very nose of the law and order authorities. This has been happening since long.
The state administration can't adopt one approach in Jammu - curfew and oppression -- and another in Kashmir -full freedom and kid gloves - as it has the potential of proving the people in Jammu as it happened in Kishtwar on April 10. That day, people defied curfew restrictions and went on rampage targeting police installations, including District Police Office and SSP office, causing them extensive damage and fighting pitched battles with police.
