Training imparted to all contesting party representatives at Leh

LEH, Apr 19: Under the supervision of General Observer (GO) for Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency, Alkesh Kumar Sharma, training was provided to all contesting party representatives about rules and regulations of election as per the guidelines of Election Commission of India (ECI) for the forthcoming Parliamentary election at Conference Hall, DC Office, Leh today.
Returning Officer (RO) Avny Lavasa was also present on the occasion. The RO said that the purpose of the training is to familiarize the political parties with the election rules and regulations including model code of conduct (MCC), election expenditure maintenance and Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC). She said that the objective is to ensure a level playfield in the election.
ADDC, Leh Moses Kunzang briefed the party representatives about the MCC and urged them to responsibly follow the guidelines of MCC issued by ECI. He also instructed them to apply for permissions whenever needed and be careful of expenses.
He stressed upon the party representatives to take care of defacement and to ensure the cleanliness of the environment during and after election-related activities.
Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) Leh, Sachin Kumar directed the contesting political parties to avail online permission through Suvidha web portal 48 hours prior to any public gathering, rally, road show and use of vehicles, loudspeaker made mandatory by ECI.
He said that without seeking permission the party/candidate is not allowed to conduct any meeting or public gathering and or to use any public property to put posters, flags etc. He added that in case of private property the party needs to seek permission from the owner to use their building for any kind of election advertisement. ARO Kargil and ARO Zanskar were also present in the meeting.
Later, the General Observer inspected the complaint room, MCMC and accounting offices. He also visited few polling stations in Chuchot and attended a Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program in Chuchot Shamma.
