UDHAMPUR, Apr 26: In order to invite the intention of government towards the social burning issues of Udhampur, Panthers Party staged one day dharna outside Deputy Commissioner office over the burning issues of Udhampur such as paralysed traffic management, polluted as well as irregular water supply, increased drug abuse & increased toll tax between Jammu & Udhampur here today.
While addressing gathering at Dharna, Former MLA & NPP President Balwant Singh Mankotia briefed that from January 1, 2019 he started Door To Door awareness campaign over these issues & after One month "Maha Rally" was also organised as mark of protest in which thousands of locals took part. Mankotia said that government and administration turned blind eye & remain completely failed to take necessary action to sort out these issues.
Mankotia termed "Ban Toll Plaza" as big burden for the people of Udhampur & expressed his anxiety over the gradual increase in the Toll-Tax rate every year for 60km long, Udhampur - Jammu route & said that such a high increase in the rate to Rs 200 is not applied at any other city in whole country between mentioned distance for which he demanded the earlier decrease in the rate, so that the people can feel relief.
Rid from routine traffic jams & public toilets on Highway in Udhampur city near MH Chowk, Jakhani Chowk as well as surroundings Rathian, Battal-Ballian, Tikri etc, NPP President Mankotia said that traffic management has totally collapsed and heavy traffic jam creates mess everyday, Traffic jams are affecting daily routine life and people of Udhampur feel harassed everyday and wasting of precious time. Repeating the demand of shifting the Jakhani Naka, Mankotia said that it is the main cause of heavy traffic jam around the city, Due to traffic jams hundreds of trucks remain stranded from Tikri to Jakhani and hundreds of drivers used to deficit in open making mockery of "Swach Bharat Abhiyan " and ODF as there is no public toilet on highway from Tikri to Jakhani which needs immediate attention, he added.
Expressing deep anguish over the failure of Government/Administration to curtail the drug abuse & trafficking in Udhampur, NPP President Mankotia said that our youth is falling in its trap with fast rate. He said that it is the need of hour is to combat it on war footing so that future generation could be saved.
Mankotia stressed upon the impure & irregular water supply in Udhampur, he disclosed that People of Udhampur are forced to drink most polluted water. He revealed that all city waste is dumped near Tawi river from where the entire water supply is pumped to city.
Mankotia said that in September 2014 the deadly floods devasted the Saddal Village of Udhampur District in which 40 dead bodies fished out & 2 were still not found where surviving villagers are forced to live in tents as migrants since 2014 even Government & Administration claims many times to rehabilitate but nothing has been done.
