Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 28: Former BJP minister and MLA from Kishtwar, Sunil Kumar Sharma, along with members of Sanathan Dharam Sabha (SDS) on Sunday offer voluntary arrest and court arrested themselves, with a warning to the police to stop harassing the minority community youths and the member of SDS.
The development comes a day after an angry mob ransacked the Deputy Commissioner's office and damaged official vehicles during a protest rally in the communally sensitive town.
BJP leader Sunil Kumar Sharma along with over half-a-dozen office bearers of SDS, a local religious group, including its president Hans Raj Bhutyal, RSS leader Rajinder Singh Sen, BJP Youth Leader Lalit Sharma, Vinod Kumar (SDS), BJP District President Pardeep Singh Parihar, Som Nath Sharma, Ravi Kumar along with others reached outside police station Kishtwar and staged a demonstration and raised slogans against Governor Satya Pal Malik and the district administration before walking inside the Kishtwar police station for offering voluntary arrest.
Later, senior civil and police officials reached the police station and till last reports came in, they refused to leave the police station and categorically told the senior police officials to first arrest the killers of the RSS leader, his PSO and Parihar brothers and then action against everything else.
As reported by "Early Times", a mob Saturday ransacked a government building housing the office of Deputy commissioner, damaged several official vehicles and set ablaze an effigy of Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik during a protest rally, sponsored by SDS, against the recent killings of four people.
Speaking to "Early Times" before entering inside Police Station Kishtwar, Sunil Sharma said that they have decided to present themselves for voluntary arrest to protest the crackdown and harassment of our youth after the minor incident which was the result of anger over the failure of the administration to arrest the culprits behind the gruesome killings and take necessary steps to restore confidence of the people.
Sunil Sharma, who also participated in the rally taken out from Char Chinar to the Deputy Commissioner's office, warned the administration of "serious consequences" if it "continues with the harassment of the SDS members and youths on the pretext of investigation".
To a question on identification of militants and the efforts of BJP lead Government at center to tackle the militancy in Kishtwar, Sunil Sharma said, "Militancy is going on for the last many years in the state and the militants are getting killed but what we are facing here is militancy from the administration."
SDS president Hans Raj Bhutyal said the outfit will continue its agitation in a peaceful manner to press for the arrest of the culprits involved in the selective killings.
"Eighteen days have passed since the murder of RSS leader but no one from the governor administration visited the community. We have made several demands such as setting up of police pickets and fencing of the hospital," he said, alleging that no action was taken so far.
He said that they are not satisfied with the efforts of police and civil administration made by them till date. He said that they will continue to protest till concrete steps will not be taken added that there is immediate need to strengthen VDC, SOG and fencing of District Hospital Kishtwar and further said that the step so far taken by the government are cosmetic.
Meanwhile, on the basis of the complaint filed by Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana, an FIR No. 82 was lodged in connection with the damage caused to the public property and called for appropriate action be taken against those found involved in it.
A senior official said: "The law will take its own course. The district administration is doing whatever necessary to maintain law and order."
Speaking from inside police station Kishtwar, Sunil Sharma said that they are not going to leave the police station until and unless the demands will not be addressed.
