Boycott remark by Minority Cell office bearer unauthorized’
ECI must do away with cumbersome M-Form process for KP migrant voters: Bakaya
4/30/2019 3:56:38 PM

JAMMU APRIL 30- Former Member Legislative Council and Patron, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Minority Cell Mr Vijay Bakaya on Tuesday described the observations of an office bearer of the Cell regarding boycott of polls to Legislative Assembly by Kashmiri Pandits, if the process of filing M-Forms is not dispensed with, as unauthorized.

“Such a statement is unauthorized and has been made in personal capacity”, Mr Vijay Bakaya said in a statement here this afternoon.

Mr Vijay Bakaya, a former Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir and a senior National Conference leader, clarified that all the Kashmiri Pandit organisations, including the National Conference Minority Cell, have been relentlessly pursuing with the Election Commission (EC) that the system of M-Forms for KP Migrant voters be done away with as the cumbersome process is working as a deterrent for casting of votes.

The Patron of the Cell emphasized that all the Kashmiri Pandits, wherever living, are keen to exercise their democratic right to vote like any other citizen of India and are dismayed that the Election Commission is not responding to this sensitivity of more than one lakh registered voters.

Mr Bakaya also clarified that while the NC Minority Cell would continue its efforts to get the M-Form irritant removed, there is no question of Kashmiri Pandits boycotting the polls as that would go contrary to their intense desire to be politically empowered.
