Hopeful of major 'win', NC starts hosting parties | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 30: With the comparatively low voter turnout in Kashmir, the National Conference is hopeful of wining most of the seats of Parliament from Kashmir province while its arch rival the Peoples Democratic Party looks pessimist. Sources said the NC leaders have already started hosting parties even before third and last phase of polling would conclude in south Kashmir. In the last around a week, three such "celebration parties" were hosted by the NC leadership in Srinagar and South Kashmir areas. "One more party being held this week before Ramadhan," said a source. Sources in the NC said the "lower turnout" of voters in Kulgam and Anantnag districts has largely benefitted the party even though it was expected that Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti would win that seat. "The minimal voter turnout in the bastions of the PDP during polling for south Kashmir seat has made it clear that the NC is likely to win this seat as well because the expected turnout from the Shopian and Pulwama districts is apprehended to be even lesser," said a NC leader on the condition of anonymity. Sources said the leaders in PDP camp are already upset that the party "couldn't attract is voter base in south Kashmir." Insiders said the PDP had banked on Anantnag seat the most to make it to the power. "In north Kashmir NC and PC had strong candidates and we had been making most of the efforts in south Kashmir but the low turnout in our bastions has affected our prospects to victory," said a PDP leader on the condition of anonymity. He however blamed the "improper campaigning" in south Kashmir as the main reason for it. "Many of those who were expected to come out for campaigning from the leadership side including family members of the Mufti family didn't turn up for the same and the results are obvious," said the leader on the condition of anonymity. |
