Kashmiri Pandit returns to valley after 30 years, reopens shop in Downtown
5/2/2019 6:13:48 PM

Srinagar , May 2
Roshan Lal Mawa, a Kashmiri Pandit, in his mid-seventies, returned back to Kashmir after thirty years and was accorded a very emotional and a rousing welcome in the Downtown area of Srinagar.

Mawa, before moving to Delhi, was a well-known trader in Zaina Kadal locality of Downtown.

In the autumn of 1990, he was allegedly attacked by militants. He was at his shop when suspected militants fired upon him. Three bullets pierced his abdomen and one his leg.

“I am a very successful businessman in Delhi and I own a house in Sanik farms. But a Kashmiri can never love some other place. The love of my home land, which is used to miss dearly, has brought me back,” Mawa said.

“I can sacrifice anything for the breeze of Kashmir. It is where I belong,” he said. “There is no life in Delhi.”
