‘BJP tried to bribe us with cash’, Leh press say in Police complaint

LEH: The media fraternity in Leh has accused the Bhartiya Janta Party of attempt to bribe the members of press in an alleged bid to get favourable coverage.
In the Himalayan plateau of Ladakh the BJP candidate Jamyang Namgyal is caught in an intense battle with the Congress heavy-weight Rigzin Spalbar for the Lok Sabha seat going to polls on May 6. The BJP has lined up has lined up top central and state leaders for campaigning in Ladakh.
Some members of the Press Club in Leh have accused the BJP leaders of trying to bribe them by offering them cash at a press conference.
Ladakh media persons namely Morupt Stanzin, Tsewang Rigzin, Rinchen Angmo, Tashi Lundup, Stanzin Desal, Tsewang Paldan and Stanstrung Dorjay filed a jointly signed complaint before Police Station House Officer, Leh, which read as the following: “We the undersigned members of the Press Club Leh would like to lodge a complaint regarding the press conference organised by BJP at hotel Singay Palace on 2 May 2019 around 2 PM. After the press conference was over, BJP leaders including state president Ravinder Raina and MLC Vikram Randhawa tried to bribe the media persons by offering us money in envelops in an attempt to use our platform to influence the outcome of elections. We didn’t accept the offer and rejected it out rightly and we showed our anguish at their attempt”.
The complaint further said, “Press fraternity of Ladakh strongly condemns this and we would like you to kindly register an FIR against Ravinder Raina and Vikram Randhawa for violating the Model Code of Conduct and also their attempt to bribe media persons in Ladakh. We would provide all necessary support when required in this regard”.
