Cong leadership 'cheats' its official candidate on Ladakh seat
5/11/2019 11:44:32 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 11: Central and state leadership of the Congress has ditched official candidate of the party on Ladakh Lok Sabha seat Rigzin Spalbar by not sending any senior leader to campaign in the mountainous region known as 'cold-desert'.
Instead of giving support to Buddhist leader Spalbar, Congress leadership rather backstabbed him by not taking any action against rebel candidate Asgar Ali Karbalai, who had contested against as independent candidate against party's official nominee Rigzin Spalbar.
Credible sources said that except giving party mandate to Spalbar, Congress leadership has not given any support to him and rather maintained a distance from his campaign to keep Karbalai into a good humour. Instead of taking side with the official candidate, Congress leadership also supported Karbalai.
Credible sources said that Congress had not take any action Karbalai due to upcoming Assembly polls. Action against Karbalai, who has the backing of an influential group, is going to prove disastrous for the party in future hence the party had dithered.
The Ladakh Lok Sabha seat, where polling was held on May 6, was going to witness a quadrangular contest. The BJP has fielded Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, 33, currently chairman-cum-chief executive councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh.
The Congress has given ticket to Spalbar, a senior Buddhist leader who had served as the CEC in the LAHDC, Leh, twice. Besides Karbalai, journalist-turned-politician Sajjad Hussain is also in the fray.
