After NC, PDP likely to 'own their proxy' councilors in SMC
5/22/2019 10:41:12 PM

Early Times Report
srinagar, May 22: With the National Conference having owned councilors who were accused of being its proxy candidates for the urban local body elections held for Srinagar Municipal Corporation, the Peoples Democratic Party is likely to play the same card.
Sources said after the announcement made by the NC that over one dozen councilors from the SMC, have joined the party folds, the PDP is almost set to make similar announcement after the declaration of the Parliament election results on May 23.
Sources alleged the party had fielded some proxy candidates and that they would be asked to "formally join PDP" lest they join some other party.
It was reliably learnt that a senior PDP leader whose close relative is also a councilor, has been asked to consolidate their players.
Sources the PDP has taken this decision after the National Conference held a function to welcome the councilors to the party folds on May 21.
The NC has given a wide publicity to the development and that PDP doesn't want to lose a chance to show its presence in the SMC.
Sources said the party was waiting for the declaration of results of Parliament where the PDP looks ahead to win the Anantnag seat.
"We have kept our finger crossed and after shoes results the announcement will be made," said a PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
During the previous ULB elections both the NC and the PDP were accused of fielding proxy candidates as the two parties had claimed to have boycotted the elections to "safeguard Article 370 and 35 A."
Despite repeated attempts the PDP leadership couldn't be contacted for comments.
