Be prepared for Army's counter militancy operations | | | Be prepared to face the Army's counter militancy operations because things have assumed disturbances and commotion all over the valley. The Army and other security agencies have been told to keep the ground in Kashmir safe for peaceful polling. Army's Northern command chief Lt Gen Ranbir Singh accompanied by GoC 15 Corps Lt Gen KJS Dhillon, the other day visited the hinterland formations in north Kashmir, where the two officers reviewed the prevailing security situation and strategy for counter militancy operations. The Army commander chaired an all agencies security review meeting at Badamibagh Cantonment, Srinagar. During the meeting, the prevailing security challenges were discussed and a joint security strategy evolved for the coming summer months including maintaining a secure environment during the forthcoming parliamentary elections. The Government fears not only poor polling but the polling scene may be marred by militancy related violence. That should be the business of the security forces to keep the security scenario under control so that fair polling was witnessed and that too in an atmosphere of peace. After the Lok Sabha elections the state may have to face the Assembly elections for which the free polling atmosphere is needed. The empowering atmosphere for public to observe normalcy was highlighted. Efforts to continually achieve such benign conditions was also acknowledged. Army Commander was also briefed about the situation on the Line of the Control including the response being given to ceasefire violations by Pakistan, Later, Lt Gen Singh visited the formations and units deployed in south Kashmir and wanted the security forces and the Army to get ready for launching counter militancy operations. The Army have to play a bigger role in maintaining peace during the polling and after the polling. South Kashmir has provided ample examples of preparedness of the militants for attacking the security convoys. And people are to visit the polling booths if the situation has improved and under the disturbances coupled by militancy relations incidents of violence bulk of voters may not participate in the polling. That is the worry of the Government and if the Governor is to continue he has to improve the situation otherwise he may be asked to quit. The only way out is to launch counter militancy operations in the entire valley simply to eliminate militants who have been told to keep disturbances on during the pre-poll scene. |
