Early Times Report

Doda, June 11: Even after passing of two years, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department has failed to start Rs 1.5 crore pipeline scheme from Bhono Nallah to Bari village.
Bari village, comprising of a population of more than 3000, is situated in Marmat tehsil of Doda district, just 35 kilometers from the district headquarter. A deputation from Bari village on Tuesday met Deputy Commissioner Doda in this regard.
While talking to Early Times, Abdul Latief Wani, a local resident said that 300 households of Bari village are suffering because of absence of drinking water for many decades.
In 2017, the state government sanctioned Rs 1.5 crore pipeline project under Water Supply Scheme for the area. But due to the pathetic and callous attitude of PHE department and local administration, the project work has not been started till date.
After the pipe were stolen, the police registered an FIR at police station Assar against some persons who had also manhandled the labourers at the site. But till date no action has been taken against the culprits.
"The culprits should be arrested and stolen pipes recovered from them, so that rule of law prevails," said former Sarpanch Ghulam Hassan Wani.
The villagers said the water pipeline scheme would have benefitted all the residents. They said they had met Deputy Commissioner Doda Dr Sagar Doifode two months and he assured them that the pipeline work will be started before May 15. But even after the assurance of DC Doda no work has been started so far.
Finally, on Tuesday, another delegation from Bari village called on the DC Doda and requested him to direct the PHE department to start the work without further delay so that people could not suffer further.
