Son faces multi-crore charges, father Rather preaches ethics | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 30: A day after his son Hilal Rather was caught in multi-crore tax evasion and other financial irregularities, senior National Conference leader and former Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather was out to preach ethics. The National Conference leader addressed a series of worker's conventions at Rafiabad and Baramulla. Rather while addressing the workers said the NC is the only political dispensation of the state which boasts "a panacea for varied problems of the state." "The party's autonomy resolution and the Naya kashmir programme afford an effective remedy for the issues concerning the state. The party will continue to strive towards achieving that end," he said. Now who would ask Rather if NC's "effective remedy for the issues concerning the state" was to help son's get multi-crore loans to establish business abroad at the cost of share of common man of Jammu and Kashmir. Interestingly at the party convention, the National Conference expressed dismay over the statement of union home minister on the question of conducting assembly elections in the state, saying the inordinate delay in holding assembly elections was synonymous with scuttling federalism in the country. Observers said the crackdown on the corrupt may have unnerved the party. It is pertinent to mention that the Income Tax department on Thursday conducted raids on multiple properties of Hilal Rather in connection with alleged loan misappropriation and tax evasion case. Hilal, a National Conference (NC) leader, may be soon charged under the criminal Anti-black Money law for holding undisclosed foreign assets. The searches were conducted at 20 properties located in Srinagar, Jammu, Delhi-NCR and Ludhiana, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said in a statement issued late evening. Despite repeated attempts the Rather family couldn't be contacted for comments. |
