Munish Gupta reaches Nanak Nagar Sec-6 residents | `Fed up with BJP, Cong; want a change' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 3: Expressing dismay over non-performance of successive governments whom they appointed with lot of hopes, the residents of Nanak Nagar Sec-6 said that they are fed up with BJP, Cong and want a new face who could successfully represent them. Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times, who was on his mass contact programme today at Nanak Nagar Sec-6 met number of people and informed them about his vision regarding contesting upcoming assembly election as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar Constituency. The residents welcomed the move of Editor Early Times for contesting assembly elections and assured him their support to ensure his win. The residents of Sec-6 told him the series of civic problems being confronted by them in their day to day life. "The drains remain blocked and water find no place to pass through it due to which foul smell emanate. The cleaning of drains is done only in selective part of area on the instances of local leaders. There is another problem which has taken grave shape in our area is haphazard parking by the locals, who park their cars wherever they find some place unaware of the passage for other vehicles to pass through the lanes," said PP Singh. The bad conditions of the roads, lanes and drains expose the hollow claims of BJP, Congress leaders for carrying out development. "The road has not been macadamised for the last 10 years. We met Raman Bhalla when he was MLA of Gandhi Nagar constituency and similarly we also requested to the present MLA Kavinder Gupta who totally ignored their plight. Some lanes have been deliberately ignored and never tiled or black topped. Now we have decided to reject both of the parties. The water in drains seeps into our houses. The slope of drains has not been taken care of during construction," said Charan Das, Harjeet Singh, CR Sharma, Ranjeet Kour, Bimla, Rajeet Singh. "The cleaning of drains, unscheduled power cuts have become a nuisance. The problem of electricity has aggravated ever since the insulated power distribution cables have been laid down. The department used to claim that there will 24x7 power supply in full metering areas but on the contrary the problems of electricity supply has increased. We are very disappointed with the local leaders who never take up these issues at concerned departments for their redressal and now we want that new faces should come in the politics to teach them lesson," said Ankush, Kuldeep Kour, Gurjeet Singh, Jagdev Singh, Jagbir Singh Sambyal, Sonia, Omkar Nath Dogra, Manohar Lal, Munish Sharma, Bimla Devi, Ajay, Babli Sethi. An octogenarian, Charan Das criticised the State government for ignoring the senior citizens. "I have applied for the old age pension but nothing happened till date. Even though I contacted the local leader for help but except assurances, he did nothing," he alleged. Another woman in the family, Geeta Rani, who got widowed in 2017 and lamented the government for not helping her to get Widow Pension as she has to take care of the family after the death of her husband. Same was the story of a lady Jagiro, who got widowed and her married son also died. They have no source of income for their sustenance. "I tried hard to get widow pension for me and my daughter- in- law but despite submission of application, we have not given this benefit,' said Jagiro. At some places, the electric poles are leaning against the walls of the house posing threat to the building and human beings living in it. "There is electric pole just beside my house. I lodged an application with the department, which in turn assured that there problems will be solved by removing the pole from the existing place but nobody came to take note of it," said Geeta Devi. Dumping of garbage in open space is also a menace in these areas. "There is an empty plot where all the residents living nearby it dump their garbage in it which remains unattended and authority concern was informed but it didn't lift it till date. These dumps have become breeding ground for flies and emanate smell making difficult to breathe," said Sapna Arora. Jodh Singh, who is social worker, said that the local residents have encroached upon the road for making platform in front of their gates due to which two cars cross with very difficultly due to shortage of width of the road. Avtar Singh, a retired engineer told Munish Gupta that there is part in this area where PHE water supply never comes and the residents have to take water from tankers. "The pipe line is very old nearly 30-40 years, and need change. Survey was conducted by the PHE department but till no action has been taken. |
