Former MLAs failed to provide us with basic amenities: Arjun Vihar residents tell Munish | Mass contact programme continues | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 3: Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, who would be contesting upcoming Assembly elections as an Independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency, on Wednesday conducted extensive door-to-door campaign in Arjun Vihar as part of his mass contact programme. During his campaign in Sanjay Nagar Extensional’ sector 4 and 6, he interacted people of all walks of life and listened patiently to them. The people narrated how their miseries have piled up during the past one decade. The residents of Sanjay nagar told Munish Gupta that the erratic and low voltage electricity supply, acute water scarcity, dilapidated roads and blocked drains have made their lives miserable, even as the authorities concerned have turned a blind eye towards their genuine problem that are common and plaguing the whole locality since long time. The residents criticized successive MLAs from the Congress and the BJP, who had come to them with development agenda only to befool people. “The streetlights have almost gone kaput, some of them are fused and others stand disconnected from electric poles. The former MLAs neither installed new ones nor restored earlier ones despite repeated plea to local Councillor and authority concerned”, said Surjit Singh residing near the Amar Jyoti School of Sanjay Nagar. Satwant Kour said that our lane is not constructed, drains are choked, sanitation employees never come here for cleanliness and if someone comes occasionally, they never lift the silt after cleanliness, resulting the silt again accumulated in the drains.
Navjot Kour, Balbir Kour, Ravinder Singh, Hardeep Singh and Charanjit Kour are the unlucky residents of locality who have been residing here for years but till date have not been registered in electoral list despite repeatedly requested either to local councillor and employees of department concerned. However, Balbir Kour and her husband had registered in electoral list but in recently held Member Parliament election their names were deleted for the reasons best known to authority concerned. Kuldeep Kour, Pushpa Magotra, Manjeet Kour and Shila Devi informed Munish Gupta that since two years they are making rounds of Social Welfare Department to get themselves registered under widow pension but the official deputed at Amphalla office never paid attention to their matter. However, all of them have no other source of income. Narinder Kour residing near Shiv Temple of Sector 6 said that her husband was a driver and had expired in 2014. She is only the bread winner of their children but still depriving to get covered under pension scheme despite repeated pleas to officials. Sneh Lata Sharma told Munish Gupta that the nallah which flows between the Sanjay Nagar to which all the drains are connected is not covered. The smell emanating from filthy nallah is giving sleepless night to people settled along the nallah. Due to absence of any dustbin in our locality, locals dump their garbage in nallah, which has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies.
