BJP trying to gain support in Kashmir by setting up RSS Shakhas
7/4/2019 11:18:25 PM
Will the people of Kashmir accept the hegemony of the RSS? Doubts have been voiced as people in the valley are against any saffronisation of the Valley. The question has surfaced after reports do appear that the BJP, has decided to set up more 'shakhas in the southern states and, most importantly, in Jammu and Kashmir. The ongoing meeting of the RSS in Jhansi has decided to penetrate into the territories where it does not have a strong presence. Apparently preparing for the upcoming Assembly elections as well as the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the RSS will increase its activities in southern states such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and even Kerala.
"We will be holding 'shakhas' in these states to enlist popular support. We want to reach out to the non-Hindi speaking population and clear misconceptions, if any, about the RSS. We are determined to break the language barrier and use our volunteers in these states to increase the number of 'shakhas'," said a senior RSS functionary. The Sangh wants to prepare the ground for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in states where it has not yet been able to form government and establish its political presence
Interestingly, Kashmir figures prominently on the RSS wish list even though the Valley has minimal Hindu population. It may be mentioned that the RSS has set up its bases in the region of Jammu and it has been decided to set up bases in the Kashmir valley where the ensuing Assembly elections are quite important. Once people in the valley support the RSS shakas it would be a base for the BJP to regain power in the valley. Well for the time being there is no response to the BJP fielding its candidates in the valley and it may be altogether tough for the RSS to open shakas in the valley. Hithrto the RSS has never attempted to set up shakas and this experiment would gain momentum once Muslims, who are in majority in Kashmir, support the experiment. But till today there is no word of support for the RSS shakas because Muslim voters in the valley find it difficult to support saffronisation.
