Protests against Yatra security; MLA Rashid and company fail to attract crowds | | | Early Times Report jammu, July 6: Even as the Awani Etihad Party headed by Engineer Rashid and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement led by Dr Shah Faesal through their Peoples United Font went for joint protests against the security arrangements in place for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra, the move has failed to attract crowds in Kashmir. The two parties had initially gone for social media campaign against the restrictions of civilian movement and train to facilitate secured travel of Yatris. The leaders of the two parties including Shehla Rashid had developed video clips to convey their message to the people about the "problems created by ban on civilian traffic." After the social media campaign, the two parties staged roadside protests against the security restrictions. Shockingly, however, no more than two odd dozen activists from the two parties joined the protests held in Srinagar. Some of the senior leaders including Engineer Rashid and former JNU leader Shehla Rashid were present at the sit-in. Sources said the PUF was expecting huge public support for the cause but that people didn't get attracted towards the same. Sources said the PUF had planned to take a lead as the Peoples Democratic Party and the National Conference were yet to hold any such demonstrations on the restrictions in the wake of Yatra. "There was an expectation that the party would attract huge public support but either the stunt didn't do well or people are not happy with the alliance," said a political observer. Sources said the PUF was trying to rope in youth but the their strategy is failing to give desired results. Recently Er Rashid had to flee from Kashmir University campus in Srinagar when some students wanted him to reply their questions. Despite repeated attempts the concerned leaders from the two parties couldn't be contacted for comments. |
