Early Times Report
Sunderbani, July 8: The Revenue Department Sunderbani of District Rajouri has virtually become a hub of corruption where a patwari demanded bribe of Rs 25,000 from a person for getting his land registered in revenue records, which he purchased few months ago.
Talking to Early Times, the victim, Rakesh Kumar, a retired serviceman from Indian Army, resident of Barnara said that he had purchased a piece of land measuring 4 marlas from Yash Pal son of Nanak Chand resident of Sunderbani in the name of his wife. "I moved an application with Tehsildar Sunberbani for getting registered the land in the name of my wife on 19-06-2019 and deposited fee of Rs 850 (GR No. A-2156764) with the department, consequently Tehsildar marked the application to Patwari Pajwal area Mohammad Asif, who initially demanded Rs 30000 from me for the registration," Rakesh Kumar alleged.
He further alleged that Patwari Mohammad Asif categorically said that his work will not be done until he pays Rs 30000 as corruption and started to harass me mentally asking to come another time every time I visited him. He challenged me that nobody can help him unless until he would pay him graft.
Getting tired of his torture, I agreed to pay Rs 25000 and he accepted the deal. "The patwari asked me to give amount to his one of his subordinate," he said. He appealed to Governor SP Malik take action against erring Patwari for asking for corruption and for not discharging his duty with honesty.
