Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 10: Former Minister and President District Congress Committee (DCC) Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma today demanded opening of Degree college in block Kandi of Billawar.
During meeting people from different villages from Kandi belt made a demand for opening of a degree college at Sallan. Delegation comprising of sarpanches, panches and senior citizens of the area apprised Dr Sharma that a big chunk of state land is lying vacant at village Sallan and if degree college opened will cater a large number of students especially girl students of the area whose gross enrolment ration is already very low and cannot go to degree college Kathua for further education as it is too far and for many other reasons, he said.
During the meeting an unanimous resolution was passed for setting up of degree college at Sallan to which Dr Sharma assured the people that the genuine demand of allotment of degree college at Sallan will be raised and followed by Block congress committee Kandi and gave an ultimatum of 30 days to governor administration to come clear on this, failing to which the common masses will be forced to come on roads.
He also pressed for setting up more degree colleges in the area like in Katli- Baggan belt, Loi Malhar- Macheddi belt. The people said other major problem faced by them in non regular supply of drinking water and strike by PHE daily wagers is further adding to their woe as they have to wait for weeks' time to get water road conditions are also bad.
