Out of 1554 Kms' length of NH projects, merely 171 Kms' completed so far
Major National Highway projects in the state at nascent stage

JAMMU, Aug 12: Most of the National Highway projects sanctioned for Jammu and Kashmir are still at nascent stage as out of total length of 1554 kilometres' projects, only 171 kilometres of projects have completed so far whereas major part is yet to begin.
According to official documents, the Union government had sanctioned a total of 17 National Highway road development projects with in aggregate length of 1554 kilometres out of which six projects with aggregate length of merely 171 kilometres have been completed so far, while the remaining 11 road development projects with aggregate length of 1383 kilometres are either at their beginning phases or at the stage of formulation of Detailed Project Report (DPR).
The national highway projects, which have been completed so far, were mostly in the plain areas of the state, while the remaining projects are mostly in the hilly terrain of the state and it would take lot of time to complete the same.
The completed projects include Jammu Bypass with total length of 15 kilometres, Jammu-Udhampur four laning project with total length of 64.58 kilometres, four laning of Cheneni-Nashri section with total length of 10.89 kilometres, Four laning of Lakhanpur-Hirangar section and Hiranagar to Vijaypur section with total length of 33.65 kilometres and 30 kilometres respectively, Vijaypur to Kunjwani 17.20 kilometres.
The remaining 11 projects which are in progress include construction of Ring road Jammu city with total length of 58.26 kilometres, Four laning of Udhampur-Ramban road with total length of 40.07 kilometres, Four laning Ramban-Banihal stretch with total length of 32.10 kilometres, Four laning Srinagar-Banihal section with total length of 67.76 kilometres, Four laning of Qazigund to Banihal section with total length of 15.25 kilometres, Four laning of Jammu-Akhnoor highway and two laning of Akhnoor-Poonch with total length of 246 kilometres, two laning with paved shoulder from Cheneni to Sudhmahadev-Goha with total length of 274 kilometres.
The other projects include construction of tunnels Lachulunga and Tanglang, construction of two lane road Batote-Kishtwar-Sinthanpass-Anantnag with total length of 265 kilometres, which are at the stage of formulation of Detailed Project Report (DPR), while two laning with paved shoulder Srinagar-Shopian-Qazigund with total length of 150 kilometres is at the stage of tendering.
Another road with total length of 234 kilometres two laning with paved shoulder of Kargil-Zhanskar, on which nine bridges' construction is in progress.
