Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 18: State administration was forced to withdraw 2G mobile internet services within 36 hours after the same was restored due to rumour mongers who indulged into spreading fake news and rumours across the region.
Credible sources said that after mobile internet service was restored two days back, some rumour mongers were indulged into spreading fake news. These rumour mongers were spreading fake news about violent incidents in some parts of Jammu region.
Credible sources said that these rumour mongers were spreading rumours of create panic in otherwise peaceful Jammu region to disrupt normal life. Administration was finding to difficult to counter all fake news because such news were spread like wildfire in this region.
It was all due to such acts of rumour mongers that Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sarita Chouhan issued a statement to counter such fake news.
She stated, "The situation in the district is absolutely normal. There is no reported untoward incident in any part of the district or for that matter the entire State. The mobile internet has been stopped to prevent rumour mongering and prevent people from creating any panic. Some rumours about reimposition of 144 and closure of schools is absolutely baseless. Things are absolutely normal. All citizens are expected to contribute in maintaining law and order in the District by not spreading any data or information which is baseless and unverified because that too will amount to a punishable offence"
The J&K administration on Sunday withdrew 2G mobile internet services once again -36 hours after the service was restored in five districts of the Jammu region.
The administration had on Friday night restored slow-speed mobile internet, after a 12-day shutdown, in the five districts -Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Reasi.
