Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Aug 27: Shakeel Bhat, leaves his home early morning to buy fresh vegetables from vendors who had set up the stall on the footpaths of Dal Lake. Dal vegetable growers are selling vegetables to the locals who come from across the city at reasonable price from early morning, after the sun rises.
Shakeel Bhat said that in the current situation most of the food shops remains closed whole day and we get a chance to buy vegetables in the early morning here at the shores of Dal Lake. There are quite a good number of Dal vegetable growers, who sell variety of vegetables with good amount of price.
Like Bhat, many residents pass by the Dal Lake to buy variety of vegetables be it onions, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, beans, capsicum and other vegetables. People residing inside the Dal interior are known for growing and selling vegetables and they have selling it many years. There are more than 30 localities inside the Dal interiors who have been affiliated with such work.
"We live in Harwan, and I came to know through my neighbor that Dal vegetable growers have set up stall at the footpath. Now, every alternative day I and my husband walk through the Boulevard and purchase vegetables. Not only that, we even send some vegetables to our relatives, so in that case Dal vegetable growers have provided a sigh of relief for all of us", said Masrat, a resident of Harwan.
"We installed the stalls on the foot paths and have been selling the vegetables from last three weeks. We usually grow vegetables and sell them to the shopkeepers, as most of the shops prefer don't open these days so we thought we should do something for masses in the tough time. And, believe me we have not increased the price of vegetables, we sell it at the same price, as we used to vend before", said Mushtaq Shafi, who sells vegetable.
