In South Kashmir, 'unscrupulous' elements grab state land, raise illegal constructions

SRINAGAR, Aug 29: Taking undue advantage of prevailing situation, unscrupulous elements have started grabbing land and constructing illegal structures on agricultural land and all along national highway in various areas of South Kashmir.
Illegal constructions have stated coming up on AIIMS approach road in Awantipora area of South Kashmir in violation of Ribbon Development Act. Structures are also being constructed all along the old patches of highway in Anantnag and Bijbehara besides construction material being is dumped at famed tourist spot Pahalgam.
Illegal constructions, in violation of laws and norms in Municipal areas of Anantnag and other districts of the restive southern region of Kashmir valley, are also coming up
Reports said that the unscrupulous elements have also started grabbing state land in rural areas of South Kashmir by fencing the area.
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Khalid Jahangir admitted that he too had received numerous complaints about land grabbing and illegal constructions.
"Yes we have received complaints and in fact we have a strong squad which is taking action swiftly and even demolishing the illegal structures and even removing the encroachments," he said.
Deputy Commissioner informed that Aditional Deputy Comissioner Anantnag is head the team and has successfully removed many enchoments in past days.
"In far off villages like Nanil and Sligam we have removed the encroachments," he added.
He requested people to not take undue advantage of the situation and stop encroaching land and raising illegal structures.
