CITU opposes privatization of electricity | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 7: State Committee of Centre of Indian Trade Union of Jammu & Kashmir today held a meeting which was presided by Comrade Om Parkash, General Secretary CITu J&K . The meeting strongly opposed the move of the Govt to privatize the electricity supply in Jammu & Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion, Comrade Om Parkash said that CITU strongly condemns the move as it is not in the interest of the general public and als not in the interest of thousands of workers working in the electricity department. Workers. H further said that it is the duty of the Govt. to provide electricity to the people at reasonable rates; but the private companies will work only for their profit and the rates are bound t increase. There are thousands of workers in the electricity department, whether they are permanent employees, temporary employees, need based- or daily wagers, whose jobs are a risk. The step of privatization may result in huge job losses and no recruitment will be there Comrade S.P. Kesar, senior leader of CITU said that this step will harm the interest of one and all. He appealed to the general public, all workers of electricity department to fight toot and nail against this move of the Govt. for protection of their jobs. Others who spoke on th occasion- Corn.
