Five days after Governor's tribute, NC leaders wake to remember Sheikh | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Sept 11: Five days after the Governor SP Malik paid timely tributes to Former Chief Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on this 37th death anniversary, two Member Parliaments from National Conference woke up to remember their NC founder. Putting the NC to apparent eembarrassment, two of the MPs from NC paid tributes to Sheikh around a week after his death anniversary, which remained a low key as the NC leaders preferred to give it miss. While the senior NC leader and Former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and his some Omar Abdullah have been under detention, most of the other leaders, especially two MPs had been facing criticism for not having even bothered to remember the party founder. It was largely alleged that NC leaders avoided paying tribute to Sheikh apprehending that it could lead their landing behind the bars. As the criticism kept growing, the two MPs in Delhi finally issued a statement to pay tributes but it was already "too late". While paying tributes the NC leaders said "mass arrest have alienated the people further" as if the duo also under detention. The two MPs who are already enjoying life in the National Capital have become extra cautious of their activities lest they too land in house detention, one of them, who was an open supporter of Pakistan, had been silent since the day New Delhi scrapped Art 370 on Aug 5. "Basically all such faces have realized that New Delhi would not tolerate any further indiscipline. But in trying to be disciplined they are even avoiding their own party founder which is something ironic," said an NC on the condition of anonymity. He said most of the NC leaders trying to save their own skin. "This time everyone is concerned about own well-being fist. Anything else is only secondary" the NC leader said. Despite repeated attempts the two MPs couldn't be contacted for comments. |
