Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Sept 18: The Power Development Department (PDD) authorities of Sub-Transmission Division have failed to start the industries sponsored power station here though the latter paid a whopping amount of about approximately Rs 1.65 crore for that.
Sources informed that about two years back, the Department of Industries and Commerce dedicated a power project for Battal Ballian industries for the supply of electricity but nothing has been done so far by the authorities concerned in this connection and only the poles from the edge of four-lane road have been fixed.
Sources informed that the total cost of this project was around Rs 2.38 crore and approximately Rs 1.65 crore had been released for the purpose in three or four installments.
Sources within the industries informed that we are subjected to low voltage and are not getting sufficient electricity to run the industrial units resulting in huge losses to the industries.
When contacted, the STD (Sub-Transmission Division) Executive Engineer Bishan Dass said that paucity of funds and dispute with NH1-A authorities are the two main reasons behind the delay in start of the power transmission station for industries in Battal Ballian area.
"Whenever the funds will be available and dispute gets cleared with the NH1-A authorities, the work will be started on priority," he said.
The locals of the area on the other hand rue that as industries are being supplied electricity from the power station which feeds residential areas, the power station get burnt quite often.
"We mostly face power shutdown due to the burning out of power transformers in the nearby villages," Bansi Lal-a village head said adding that the industrial sector should be given a separate power station to ensure proper power supply to the residential areas.
Several others said that low voltage in these villages is also a fallout of the local power being diverted to the industrial sector.
