SUNDERBANI, Sept 20: Newly constructed building of Government Middle School Nahoti zone Lower Hathal in tehsil Sunderbani of district Rajouri has allegedly developed cracks due to substandard material used by the contractor.
Astonishingly, the contractor is happened to be the Village Committee Member was given payment by the Education Officials without conducting proper inspection of the building before handing over of it.
"The officials of education department, who had responsibility to ensure the proper construction under given norms didn't even bother to give a look at the building and the quality of the material used in its construction before making payment to the contactor," sources said.
They further said that the work of school building was sanctioned few years ago which was consisted of three rooms and it took years for its completion and lakhs were spent on it but only one year of its completion the walls of the building have developed cracks which clearing shows that substandard material was used in its construction by the contractor just to fill his pocket at the cost of students lives who study in these buildings.
Locals maintained that they informed about it to the concerned ZEO Lower Hathal who sensing flare-up of issue, ordered the contractor to repair it who got plastered the crack just for subsiding the dissent voices of the local residents but the danger is still hovering over the students who study under these rooms. "Some senior officials of the Education Department are involved in this scam who issued payment without inspecting the quality of work," they alleged.
They appealed to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu for taking note of this issue and demanded thorough investigation of the matter and also urged that culprits should be brought to book.
