Now Srinagar to get model schools, Jammu nothing! | 'Rs 3 crore already released for upgradation of 25 existing institutions' | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 20: As a part of upgradation of educational activities in Kashmir, the Administration has decided to come up with 25 model government schools in the summer capital of Srinagar, whereas no such plans seems to be in place for Jammu, which unlike the valley, swear by Nationalist Sentiments. Since the abrogation of special status on Aug 5, the administration's plans for development activities seems to be focused on Kashmir alone as in the latest, the educational sector in Srinagar is getting special attention. Official sources said that administration has already released Rs 3 crores for the upgration of 25 existing government schools in Srinagar as model schools as part of the pilot project. Sources said work is underway as the funds have already been released as a result of which the concerned are not finding any financial crunch with regard to expenditure for the project implementation. Sources said apart from introducing e-classrooms, the project looks ahead at all round development of students and that Srinagar would emerge as a new centre of learning. Officials said that as a part of the project, the government schools in Srinagar would be at par with international standard that even the leading private schools in the region are yet to introduce. But for Jammu region especially the winter capital, seems to be the same old story of neglect. In the last around month, the administration is continue to shower incentive on Kashmir province, which actually harbour separate sentiments. Just around a week ago, the government released additional Rs 28 crores for modernization of civic amenities in summer capital of Srinagar whereas no such special funds were granted for Jammu. The Raj Bhawan granted additional funds for the summer capital as a part of the improvement of civic amenities in Srinagar. The additional funds are being spent through the Srinagar Municipal Corporation for up-gradation civic facilities like installation of new street lights. As per official records, each of the Councillors of the SMC has being given Rs 25 lakh from the new kitty, apart from the previously allotted fund. Though Jammu has been seeking its share in such developmental activities, any development from the side of administration is awaited. Despite repeated attempts the concerned were not available for comments. |
