Jammu, Sept 20: S. Amrik Singh Namdhari, a well known veteran sculptor of Jammu died of cardiac arrest on 18th September, 2019. This was disclosed by well known Jammu based Ghazal writer Amar Singh Kuka who happens to be his maternal uncle. S. Amrik Singh Namdhari was suffering from disease for last some time. Artists and writers have expressed their shock over death S. Namdhari. S. Amrik Singh Namdhari was a student of music at Institute of Music & Fine Arts and learnt the art of sculpting from Late V R Khajuria, a veteran and well known sculptor of the state as well as country. S. Namdhari had participated in a large number of art exhibitions and art camps in the state and country. S. Namdhari kept himself busy with work and creation of sculptures, initially with simple themes in abstract forms, later the themes of 'Om', 'Ek Om' and so on. Being basically associated with mechanical work as a professional, he used to experiment with the carving of stone and wood pieces on his lathe machines. His mechanical skill proved to favour his technique in sculpture. He had tried his hand on variety of stone quality and types including Pista Stone, Udaipur Sone, Kota, Black marble etc. S. Namdhari's works have been put on display in National and All India Art Exhibitions at N. Delhi, Amritsar, Raipur, Nagpur, Jammu etc. He had held his one man shows at Amritsar, Mumbai, Patiala and Jammu. |
