BDC elections: Despite boycott call proxies of PDP, NC, Cong fighting each-others on many seats
10/15/2019 10:42:17 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 15: Contrary to the claims of PDP, NC and Congress to boycott Block Development Council (BDC) elections, many leaders of these three parties are contesting polls in their respective areas to maintain their dominance.
In the twin border districts of Poonch -Rajouri and in the belt of erstwhile Doda district comprising Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar districts, a large number of PDP leaders and supporters are in the fray. Similarly a large number of Congress leaders are also fighting elections in these belts where party has strong hold in some pockets.
Despite boycott call given by leadership of their respective parties local level leaders of these parties had jumped into the electoral battle to check their opponents to spread their footprints in the areas which were considered as their own strongholds.
Credible sources said that former MLAs of NC, Congress and PDP have asked their supporters to contest elections. In some areas of Poonch and Rajouri, real fight is between proxy candidates of NC and PDP. Similarly in some areas proxy candidates of PDP and Congress are in straight fight where BJP supporters are only on papers.
In Reasi and Ramban districts real fight is between proxy candidates of Congress and BJP.
A senior PDP leader of Rajouri district said that they donot want to give free field to their arch rivals Congress and NC in BDC elections so they have allowed their supporters to contest elections. The leader said in most of the areas in his constituency NC is the arch rival so boycotting elections means giving walkover to NC which has already fielded its proxy candidates on most of the seats.
