Jammu, Oct 19: In its ongoing efforts to make our earth clean and plastic free, Model Academy, the prestigious school of MIER organised an awareness drive on the theme "Say No to Plastic". In this connection a Special Assembly was held in the school premises. Students staged a small skit depicting the theme. This was followed by a lecture by a well-known social activist, Kewal Krishan Wadhera. Wadhera has been travelling across the country spreading awareness about clean India and plastic free earth. In his interaction he sensitized students about the negative impact of plastic bags. He further said that plastic was a threat to the coming generation and emphasised on the need for a collective endeavour to eradicate the plastic bags usage in the city. In the latter part of the day a rally was organised in which around 230 green crusaders comprising of Scouts & Guides, NCC Cadets, members of the Eco-Club participated. Holding aloft banners carrying slogans that dissuaded the use of plastic in the city, the students visited market areas to encourage people to show polythene bags and do their bit for a safer environment. They distributed handmade cloth bags and paper bags made from discarded t-shirts among market goers and vegetable vendors. |
