Kotranka people await re-establishment of BSNL exchange lifted 2 yrs ago
11/23/2019 10:18:13 PM

Early Times Report

KOTRANKA (RAJOURI), Nov 23: With no mobile internet services available in the entire state as the government has imposed restrictions on it for the last more than three months, the broadband internet proved handy for those who had such facility at their disposal.
But what to talk of areas like Kotranka in district Rajouri where even basic telephony is a luxury for the people since almost two years ago, the existing BSNL exchange was removed from there without any valid reason.
And, it seems the BSNL authorities are not in a mood to restore the exchange in Kotranka due to which thousands of users are waiting for BSNL mobile network.
Pertinently, BSNL exchange was setup in early 90s at Kotranka but it ceased to exist few years ago. Ironically, new areas in J&K are getting new exchanges while Kotranka lost its existing exchange.
Absence of BSNL exchange in Kotranka is impacting businessmen as they've already incurring losses to their business due to non-availability of mobile internet services while the government offices also have no internet access after August 5 as there is no broadband connections available in Kotranka due to no BSNL exchange.
When contacted Additional Deputy Commissioner Kotranka said that BSNL exchange is an important issue for Kotranka and he will talk to DDC Rajouri and Div Com Jammu regarding this issue and try to get the exchange back.
Meanwhile, DTE Rajouri told that due to construction of Rajouri to Budhal Highway, OFC cables were destroyed which prompted them to lift the exchange from Kotranka adding that the BSNL is facing paucity of funds to relay the cables again.
He said that as soon as the funds are available, the tenders will be floated for setting up the exchange again.
