Advisor Sharma reviews Power, Education & Industries sector

SRINAGAR, Nov 25: Advisor to Lt Governor K K Sharma today directed the officers of the Power development Department (PDD) to ensure the repair of the damaged electric infra so that the power supply to the valley can be augmented and consumers are provided adequate power supply.
The Advisor was speaking at a review meeting convened to discuss the supply of electricity and damage caused to the electric infra due to the recent heavy snowfall. Secretary Technical Power, Chief Engineers and other senior officers of the department were present.
The Advisor directed the officers to ensure that the damaged transmission towers are repaired within a week's time so that on-going work on the Alesteng- Zainakote transmission line is completed. He directed Secretary Technical to personally monitor the repair work on this prestigious project which would ensure a quantum increase in the transmission capability besides facilitating import of power to the valley especially during winters.
The Advisor also directed Chief Engineers to maintain a dedicated power cut schedule and ensure its wide publicity so that the consumers are made aware about the power cut calendar in advance. He also asked the officers to be responsive to the complaints, if any of the consumers and get requisite feedback about the implementation of the various flagship power programmes.
Earlier, the Advisor undertook a review meeting of the Education Department which was attended by Director School Education and other senior officers.
The Advisor directed ensuring proper capacity building of the teachers by way of holding seminars, training programmes, Training of Trainers (ToTs) so that they are made aware about the latest trends and techniques in teaching.
The Director Education informed the Advisor about the initiatives undertaken for providing quality education to the students. He said that the process is underway for imparting crash course to the newly recruited teachers and Rehbar-Taleem teachers.
The Advisor also had a meeting with Director Industries Kashmir Mehmood Shah regarding the present industrial scenario of the valley.
The Advisor directed speeding up various initiatives in the industrial sector which would catalyze the growth of the industries in the valley and would ensure generation of jobs for the trained and skilled persons especially the youth.
While seeking the status of schemes targeted at aspiring young entrepreneurs, the Advisor asked the officers to hold awareness camps in all areas of the valley so that more youngsters get encouraged to setup their own units.
