Says bureaucrats scared him by claiming 1000 people may be killed

Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 29: Former Governor of Jammu & Kashmir Satya Pal Malik while addressing a function at Panaji in Goa on Thursday said that bureaucrats in Kashmir had scared him by claiming that if J&K was reorganized more than 1000 people might be killed.
Malik, who saw a landmark political and constitutional transition in J&K during his stint as J&K Governor, revealed that he was even told that "J&K Police will revolt".
"But I am proud of Kashmir Police that even on the occasion of Eid none of the soldiers asked for an off. Everyone was on duty and celebrated Eid (while standing) in the lines," he added.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "The former J&K Governor spilling the beans more than three months after the erstwhile state was reorganized indicates that the government was fully prepared to tackle the situation which could have emerged."
He said that prior to August 5 Kashmir-centric politicians left no stone unturned to instigate the common people and dropped enough hints about something big is going to happen. "Leaders of all Kashmir-centric parties tried to put up a joint front to bring common people out on streets," the analyst added.
He said that the ploy of the so called mainstream leaders of Kashmir didn't work as people ignored them and their stunts."Had these leaders succeeded in their designs Kashmir could have witnessed violence prior to August 5 itself," the analyst said.
An observer said that even after four months Kashmir-centric leaders who have been detained are in no mood to relent and are refusing to assure the administration that they won't indulge in any sort of provocation if they are set free. "The bureaucrats whom former J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik pointed towards in his speech have worked for many years with the Kashmir-centric leaders and it seems that they had warned him as they knew it very well how the Kashmiri politicians have operated during the past years," the observer added.
He said, "No one can deny the fact that Omar Abdullah in 2010 and Mehbooba Mufti in 2016 mishandled the Kashmir situation when they were holding the Chief Minister's office. In 2010 more than a 100 people were killed while in 2016 again more than 100 people died in the street protests and violence in the Valley. This time around not a single bullet was fired."
