EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 6: The people travelling on 210 KM Jammu-Kishtwar National Highway (NHW) has become a nightmare for them while traveling as the normal journey that took around 5-6 hours is being covered in 12 hours due to failed management and worst traffic jams on Kishtwar-Jammu NHW.
As per the details available with “Early Times”, thousands of vehicles in last 24 hours remain stranded for hours together in traffic jam in and around Udhampur and up to the road leading to Chenani-Nashri tunnel and much to the surprise; hardly any traffic cop or regular cops were seen performing the duty with regard to streamlining of the traffic on this stretch of National Highway which is joint track for the passengers who travels on Kishtwar-Jammu or on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
It was not only normal vehicles which got stranded due to heavy rainfall, but several ambulances carrying patients also got trapped in heavy jams as a result of which the people were seen walking on foot to cover the distance so that they could reach on time at the destination.
The people while talking to “Early Times” said that the worst 50 KM stretch is from Udhampur to Chenani where the up-gradation work is going on at snail’s pace adding that the traffic jams had become the hallmark everyday as a result of which the people traveling on these roads become difficult and uphill task.
The people said that the up-gradation work along with continuous landslides on highway is the major cause of concern adding that the authorities at the helm of affairs fail to address the issue.
The people called on the authorities to expedite the road construction process so that people traveling on Jammu-Kishtwar National Highway do not suffer anymore.
