Tainted Police officers ‘sidelined’ by Kumar eyeing plum postings
1/6/2020 11:46:43 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Dec 6: K .Vijay Kumar, former Advisor to then J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik, during his tenure kept the entire police department on tenterhooks.
“The Home Department of the erstwhile State of J&K was directly under Kumar’s control and he ensured that upright and honest police officers hold the important postings. Barring a few Kumar had ensured that officers with the proven track record run the show,” said a source.
He said, “After the transition of Jammu and Kashmir into a Union Territory and the change of guard J&K police officials with a dicey track record are once again making attempts to regain their places of postings, which they lost due to Kumar’s policy of only encouraging upright officers.”
It’s in place to mention here just before J&K’s transition into a Union Territory, Kumar had put down his papers and he was subsequently appointed as Advisor Kashmir Affairs by the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi.
Another source said that the police officers who were sidelined during Kumar’s tenure are making all the possible attempts to make their presence felt so that they could return to their positions.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “People in the newly carved out Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are hoping that system will change and it will change for the good. If the old people with dicey track record are once again given the plum
positions it will not go well with the masses as they believe that things have not changed.”
He said that the former Governor’s Advisor, Vijay Kumar, during his tenure has already given a roadmap and it needs to be followed to keep things in J&K on track. “Everyone is aware of the fact that J&K is a conflict ridden place and it should be managed in a proper way. It needs right people at right places,” the analyst added.
