‘Matlabi’ doctor quits PDP to explore greener pastures
1/18/2020 12:06:13 AM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 17: A Kashmir doctor, who had joined Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to allegedly benefit his family owned hospital has quit the party, with political circles calling him “Matlabi doctor.”
The doctor, who was among four leaders who quit the PDP on January 10, a day after a team of politicians called on the visiting Ambassadors in Kashmir, had joined the PDP around four years ago.
Sources said the doctor had joined the PDP and was behaving like “Chamcha” to get his family owned hospital in south Srinagar reopened. It is pertinent to mention that the then government led by PDP had sealed the private hospital following deaths of patients.
After the deaths of the patients, the government had inspected the hospital to find “things grossly wrong.” The hospital was subsequently sealed.
But the sources said after the unrest of 2016, when the PDP was allegedly losing public support in the valley, the doctor had approached the party to join them with the condition that the government should reconsider the decision of having sealed the hospital owned by his family.
Sources said that after an alleged “deal”, the seal on the hospital building was removed despite public outcry. The said doctor had become a PDP leader.
But with the PDP having lost many of its prominent faces in the fresh “rebellion”, the said medico has also left the party.
The medico is understood to be in touch with a group planning to float a new party. Sources said the medico has put a condition for his joining the new party with a condition that “government spares his business venture from any inspections or raids and that he is allowed to do whatever business he wants to do from the premises of the said establishment.
It was reliably learnt that the doctor also wants a building permission to extend his business by constructing more buildings inside the premises of their family venture in south Srinagar.
Despite repeated attempts the doctor couldn’t be contacted for comments.
