Delhi Election Campaign - An analysis
Mahadeep Singh Jamwal2/7/2020 10:43:09 PM
Delhi is no stranger to swinging fortunes; the war for its throne has always been a tough contest between political parties. Delhi, a Union Territory, but its crown although thorny but prestigious and the CM seat is extra hot because the Government of India operate from Delhi and Delhi can be termed as 'Mini India' in ideology and culture as people from all over the States reside in Delhi, work in Delhi and serve the Delhi. The Delhi power seat has given tremendous shocks to ruling BJP as it stands totally rejected by the voters of Delhi and now in 2020 elections, its winning is a do or die situation for BJP and especially for Modi-Shah duo.
Elections in India for the last few years are becoming a cycle of shameful campaigns and tearing off all the civilized behavior from all the political parties that may be from the ruling elite or opposition. A new trend let loose by the BJP is that it mobilize all the Ministers from the central as well as State Government, its MPs and State cadres like 'locust swarm attack' especially during the State Elections, where it is not in power. Right from PM, Home Minister, and CMs behave like head of political parties rather than as such for the whole country or entire state. The people murmur that Modi is more election PM and less behaves as PM for one and all. 2014 and 2019 elections were tuned by the BJP as not to elect true representatives of people but to stamp the candidates of this party to elect Modi heading for Autocracy and this way quite number of tainted and charged with murder, rape and heinous crime managed their entry into the Parliament and with the blessings of Modi to Ministries. When we analyze the Delhi Elections, in spite of it as Union Territory, PM and HM were campaigning and holding rallies to brand Delhi CM as 'Terrorist, Naxallite, Pro-Pak and what not. The desperate Shah was seen moving door to door forgetting that he is Home Minister of India. How he was behaving like a party campaigner, when he was mostly required in the ongoing session of the Parliament to speak on many issues of National security concern. BJP mobilized CMs of BJP ruled states and has stationed its 240 MPs drawn from across the country in Delhi to influence the Delhi Voters, who are more visionary, literate and aware than these political hawks. The BJP channelized its all resources to counter Delhi CM. It was only the BJP party whose campaigners was debarred by ECI to campaign and was issued notices including MOS Finance Anurag Thakur, MPs like Parvesh Verma and national spokes person like Sanbit Patra for violating model code of conduct (MCC). UP CM Yogi Adityanath gets EC show cause notice for accusing Kejriwal. This party and its campaigners lost all the senses when it baptized Delhi CM as 'Terrorist', 'Naxallite', anti-national, Aantakvadi and what not, when he was backed by Delhi voters by putting 67 seats of the 70 into the lap of Delhi CM. This way BJP not only insulted the voters of the Delhi but proved that this power lust party can go to any extent for any shameful act for the power sake. We have seen this party and PM sharing the dais with late Mufti at Jammu and on the face of the PM, Mufti thanked the anti-nationals and terrorists for the peaceful elections in the erstwhile J&K state and Modi dared not to speak anything because it had architected the alliance to taste power for the first time in J&K with a party always sympathizer of the anti-nationals. The more claimants of the Nationalism were blind towards accusations of its party's Ministers, MPs and National Spokes persons branding an elected CM as terrorist, Naxallite and anti-national. We have seen a difference betwixt illiterates and literates in Delhi election campaign, as all accusations of BJP for Kejriwal as 'Terrorist', Naxallite' etc. were referred by him to the 'Voter's Court' for adjudication on 8 February, 2020, instead of retaliating like illiterate BJP campaigners and their supporters occupying musical chairs. Marked by the BJP aggressively raising the anti-CAA protests in Shaheen Bagh as a poll issue, the AAP hard selling development and the Congress conspicuous by its near absence, the bitter, often divisive and vitriolic campaign for the Delhi elections ended on speculative note, who will form the Government? There are 672 candidates in fray for 70 Assembly seats. There are a total of 1, 46, 92,136 (1.46 crore) voters in Delhi comprising 80.55 lakh males and 66.35 lakh females. The continuous debates on TV channels and live extensive coverage of constituencies dipping into the minds of the Delhi voters by independent channels, hints towards establishing the politics of work in Delhi elections rather than BJPs fodder to voters of article 370, Ram Mandir, Gali Galoch, Jives etc. The politics in Delhi had undergone a transition and have changed the basis of politics and have paved the way for honest politics rather than politics of divisive agendas, false commitments, and hollow slogans.
