Early Times Report

Vijaypur, Feb 11: The Mini Bus Operators today blocked the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway for three hours against the controversial toll Plaza Saroore on Tuesday, forcing thousands of vehicles to explore other options to reach their respective destinations.
The mini bus operators of Vijaypur, Bari Brahmana, Jammu, Rahya Suchani and Rajinderpura expressed their resentment against the toll plaza’s contractor holding protest and blocked the National Highway for three hours.
They alleged that the toll plaza contractor is charging the toll tax forcibly with the muscle power from the minibus operator despite the fact that the Deputy Commissioner Samba had announced in a meeting held on 18-01-2020 that minibusses as well as private vehicles of district Samba are exempted from toll tax.
“But since 10-02-2020 the toll plaza contractor is forcibly charging the toll tax from Mini Buses”, said Raghubir Singh Bagal, President Mini Bus Operators.
He said that today they have opened the road upon the assurances given the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Samba as well as ASP Samba that the matter regarding the illegal charging of toll tax from Mini Buses will be discussed with the National Highway Authority against the order issued by the Deputy Commissioner Samba.
Raghubir Singh Bagal further told, “If the National Highway authority will not clear this issue and take serious note against the toll plaza contractor then they will be compelled agitation at large and the National Highway Authority shall be responsible for loss and risk.”
“The various other organizations of different fields, President Jammu-Kathua Transport Union, Deepak Pagotra-President of Municipal Committee, Vijaypur, Business Community of Vijaypur and Bari Brahmana also supported the Mini Bus operator union. President Jammu-Kathua Transport Union also told the ADC, Samba that the toll plaza contractor is charging Rs. 12000/- month whereas it has been settled by the administration Rs. 6800/- per month”, they said.
Deepak Pagotra also charges allegations that the employees of the toll plaza are charging the illegal toll charges from the locals who have been declared exempted by the District Administration. He urged the Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Union Government of India to take it as serious and lift the toll plaza which the contractor has been succeeded to get the contract of toll plaza by way of suppressing and concealing the facts and installed in violation of the provisions, terms, and conditions of the National Highway Authority.
He urged the LG of JK UT to initiate the inquiry into the matter and unhide the nexus who have managed the contract of the toll plaza and create inconvenience for the public in general by charging the toll tax illegally and unlawfully with the dint of muscle power.
