Excise Department conduct series of raids, 2 arrested

Jammu, March 18: The Excise Department is continuing to tighten noose against the violators and book them under the Excise Act. Continuing the raids for the 7th consecutive day, various teams laid nakas / raids across the State.
One wine shop namely Gurvinder Wine Shop at R.S Pura was booked under section 49(b) of J&K Excise Act for breach of license conditions. The Excise officers also conducted raids at Akhnoor, Jadh, Lower Jadh, Sohal, also destroyed 20 liters of Lahan on the spot. Another raid was conducted by officials of Excise department of Excise Range City North Jammu in which the records of three wine shops were checked.
The team of Excise Range Kathua laid the nakas on third consecutive day at Lakhanpur, Keerian and Jaraie to check the illegal smuggling of liquor. In the process about 80 commercial/private vehicles were checked for ascertaining of liquor/Drugs.
Similarly in Samba Range various licensed premises were checked and two Wine Shops namely M/s Monika Wine Shop Bari-Brahaman & Ajay Sharma Wine Shop Ramgarh and one Bar & Restaurants namely Drink and Dine Raya Morh were booked for breach of license condition under section 49(b) of J&K Excise Act. Besides this a Distillery namely Madira bottlers was also inspected.
In Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range the Excise sleuths laid down naka at Khellani near Petrol Pump and checked the vehicles for the purpose of illegal smuggling of liquor and contraband items.. Excise team also conducted a raid in village Dranga, Tehsil Bhaderwah.
In Rajouri-Poonch Range conducted raids were conducted at village Sialsui Lairy of Kalakote and Nanyal Nowshera. During the course of raids two persons namely Amreek Singh of nanyal and kailash Devi of Lairy were arrested under section 48 of J&K Excise Act for possession of 7 bottles of illicit liquor. Besides this about 20 liters of illicit liquor and 50 liters of Lahan was recovered and destroyed on the spot.
Those who participated in the day long operations including Nipun Tickoo, ETO Excise Range City South, Jammu, Neeum Mughal ETO Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban, Virender Pawar ETO Excise Range Rajouri-Poonch, Nagesh Singh ETO Excise Range City South Jammu, Suraj Prakash ETO Excise Range Samba, Virecder Kumar ETO Excise Range Kathua, Rupali Vaid ETO Excise Range Udhampur-Reasi alongwith Inspectors Tariq Pervaiz, Arun Kumar, Razi Ahmed, Akshay Chopra Mukul Sharma, Rahul Agustam, Renu Sharma and Mord Arif.
As per Excise Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan, a comprehensive methodology is being worked out by the department to plug all illegal distillation and smuggling of the Liquor and Drugs. He said that public shall be associated in the campaign against use of drugs and the department shall encourage the Social Groups and youth for the same.
