'JANTA CURFEW'
Dr. Parveen Kumar, Dr. D. Namgyal3/20/2020 8:22:45 PM
World today has plunged into a severe health crisis due to the highly infectious corona virus commonly called as 'COVID 19'. The pandemic that started from Wuhan city of China has spread worldwide resulting huge loss of human lives. The country is also a victim of this deadly virus though the situation is very much under control. Hon'ble Prime minister of India, while addressing the nation talked of the explosion in the cases in many countries after initial days and wrong to assume that India will not be impacted. The government is keeping a close watch on numbers.
The Prime minister has called for 'Janta Curfew'; an appeal to the citizens of the country not to come out of their houses on Sunday March 22 from 7 am in the morning to 9 pm in the evening. Comparing it with a black out during war time, this call is an attempt to contain the spread of deadly corona virus, which has killed about 8,000 persons across the globe and affected over 180 in India, PM Modi requested all the citizens to abide by the 'Janta Curfew' on March 22 from 7 am till 9 pm. The number of deaths and infections is supposed to be rise in the near future. India is more susceptible to the casualties from this deadly virus as it will soon enter the third stage where the infection spread out at the community level.
Due to this novel corona virus the whole world is going through a deep crisis. The public health system of many countries has collapsed. Many countries have taken severe drastic steps to contain the spread of the disease. Peoples are not allowed to come outside their homes. There is a total lock down. Social distancing is being advocated. Gatherings, processions have been banned. International flights and many trains have been cancelled. Passengers are being compulsorily quarantined for 14 days. All this is being done to contain the spread of highly infectious virus which gets transmitted from person to person through respiratory droplets produced during coughing and sneezing. Time from exposure to onset of symptoms is generally between two and 14 days, with an average of five days. The virus spreads through droplets from the mouth and nose of a person with COVID-19 after coughing, sneezing, and exhaling. Other people can then pick up the virus by breathing in these droplets or coming into contact with surfaces that have been contaminated with the droplets such as by touching an object and then touching parts of the face.
Seeing the pandemic nature of this virus, Hon'ble Primeminister of the country gave this call for a 'Janta Curfew' a curfew of the people, for the people and by the people. During the
Janta Curfew, the PM has requested the peoples to avoid public spaces and stay home for 14 hours in the view of Corona virus outbreak which has affected over 100 countries across the world. The Hon'ble Prime minister has also said that all the citizens must abide by this. All the peoples have to stay off the roads ad public places on Sunday March 22. From 7 am in the morning to 9 pm in the evening. However peoples working in essential services such as police, medical services, media, home delivery, fire fighting and serving the nation etc will not need to take part in the Janta Curfew. At 5 pm, all the citizens have to stand in their doorways, balconies, windows and do clapping and ringing their bells for five minutes. This is to encourage the millions of peoples who are working for the past two months in essential services working day and night in hospitals, airports, railway stations and many other public places battling with the deadly corona virus. They have put their own lives at risk serving the humanity. They deserve to be applauded and in fact the sound of clapping and ringing bells should be a sound of gratitude towards them.
The prime minister has also appealed to the business community to act with empathy towards workers. Their wages should not be cut during this period. An economic task force headed by Finance minister will take measures to boost the economy. Children below the age of ten and old persons above the age of sixty five are required to stay indoors for the next few weeks. Avoid panic buying the country has enough stocks. Avoid routine health checkups and going to hospitals. The fight against this deadly COVID 19 has to be won with resolution and restraint. This Janta Curfew is a means of social distancing and social distancing is at present the only effective tool in the fight against this virus. Hopefully, with the participation of all very soon the country will be free of this deadly virus. All of us should behave like responsible citizens, should participate actively in this clarion call of March 22 and not to believe and spread rumors.
