Road connecting Thanamandi, Darhal in dilapidated condition
Awaiting Govt’s attention since 1967

Rajouri, Mar 21: The road connecting Thanamandi Sub Division with Darhal tehsil of Rajouri district, which is in total dilapidated condition, has been waiting for government’s attention since 1967 to provide benefit to the people of both tehsils by shortening the distance.
Sources told Early Times that the road was actually constructed by the army during 1965 due to strategic point of view but after view years of its construction the road was abandoned by the governments and never looked after by the concerned department due to which the condition of the road continued to deteriorate and with the passage of time the road ultimately became unable for vehicular movement.
“It was much shortened route connecting Thanamandi with Darhal having distance of 20-25 kilometres but due to it bad condition now people had to take long route by Rajouri, with extra 15-20 kilometres of distance,” said social worker & PRIs President Darhal Karamat Malik, Imran Khan and Javeed Khan, who are the local residents.
“The road was never blacktopped since its existence. It used to help people living in remote areas and connecting villages.
Many deputations met with previous governments demanding to construct this road but their requests were never considered. The road remain closed due to land sliding and never cleared off,” alleged Abib Malik , Jeved Khan and Rakesh Sharma. They further said that with the connectivity of this road, the residents of Darhal, Budhal , Mahore and Mandar Gala can reach directly to famous Shahadra Sharief Shrine.
People appealed to Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Nazeer Ahmand Shiekh to give due consideration to this long pending demand, which can provide relief to thousands of people. They also urged to LG GC Murmu to intervene into this matter.
XEn PWD Rajouri, when contacted said that department has kept proposal of this road in languishing projects and the matter has been taken up with government. He further said that work will be started as soon as the funds are released by the government.
