3/21/2020 10:56:27 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

RAMBAN, Mar 21: Despite spending crores of rupees, the construction of Neel-Chamalwas road in Banihal area of district Ramban is still a distant dream for the people even after four decades since the work on it was taken into hands exposing.
The inordinate delay exposes the o nexus between the contractors and the officials of the various departments who had remained the custodian of this road during the last four decades viz R&B and PMGSY.
As per the details available with Early Times, the local people rued the poor condition of 20 km road which has put the lives of people in danger as the Neel-Chamalwas road is beyond any doubt in deplorable conditions.
“Let the winter approach it is like a Diwali for the contractor, who extracts money for repairing it. The money is being spent but only on papers,” said the locals added that not a single mile road has been repaired so far by the executing agency.
People said that even District Administration as well as successive governments fails in bringing an end to the plight of the passengers travel on this road.
“People are not much worried about the money fraudulently withdrawn against the works shown executed on this road but they are worried for the lives of the people since travelling on this road is not less than playing in the hands of death” said the locals.
They said that being one the oldest roads of the erstwhile tehsil Banihal it’s still under construction. This road is treated as buffer by all political leaders as everyone made only promises which were never realized.
The angry people termed the promises as nothing but a gimmick to play to the voters with all non-seriousness towards the plight of the common masses.
People are now pinning hopes on the current dispensation led by LG G C Murmu and hope that Neel-Chamalwas road will get attention of the government.
The people further told the Early Times that Rs 100 fare is being charged for a stretch of less than 20 km if they travel by Sumo and Rs 50 is being charged by matadors for single side journey.
They said that the people although approached the concerned authorities several times but they have always turned a blind eye and deaf ear to the public complaints as a result of which open loot by the transporters is continuing without any fear.
