Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Mar 23: Chaos and confusion was witnessed at the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) Pampore after a group of employees of Municipal Committee Pampore entered into heated argument with the Executive Officer of the Committee over the shortage of masks and other equipment needed in quarantine process.
Reports reaching here said that the trouble broke out as the Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Pampore Shakeel Ahmad Bhat asked the sanitation staff to serve the people who have been kept under quarantine at EDI Pampore. The employees said that since their job is to ensure sanitation they are doing so without much help from the people at helm.
A group of employees told Early Times that they were discharging their duties without any support from the officers who are at the helm at the Municipal Committee Pampore. They said that no masks or hand gloves have been provided to them while they are ensuring that cleanliness is up to the mark at the quarantine center and in its surrounding.
“We raised the issue before the Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee Pampore and his reply was astonishing. He asked us to pay for the masks and hand gloves ourselves saying that the Committee is not in a position to fulfill our demands. How can one expect that the things would improve given the pathetic response of the Executive Officer,” said the employees.
The employees said that the Executive Officer went a step ahead as he asked the sanitation staff to provide all logistical help to the people who are being quarantined at the EDI campus. They said that the Executive Officer is over stepping his jurisdiction adding that the officer wants to be more loyal than the king.
“How can you expect us to provide help to the people suspected to be affected by Corona Virus when we don’t have the necessary equipments with us? Not to talk of the advanced equipment we are lacking in masks and hand gloves considered to be basic things for tackling a deadly disease like Corona Virus,” said the employees.
The employees said that they are ready to render a helping hand to the administration in providing relief to the quarantined people at EDI Pampore provided they are given the masks, hand gloves and other necessary equipment. They said that they want to be a part of the process but for that the people at helm have to be forthcoming and supporting as well.
Director Urban Local Bodies Kashmir, Riyaz Ahmad Wani said that the complaint of the employees would be looked into and they would be given the masks and hand gloves as soon as possible. He said that a contact would be made with the medical official posted at EDI quarantine center and then necessary steps would be taken.
It would be in place to mention here that in the Pampore area quarantine centers have been established at EDI Pampore, Shah-I-Hamadan Dar-ul-Aloom and Kongposh hospital. The employees discharging their duties at these centers are doing so without any precautions in place.
