Internet gag enters into its longest ever period in Jammu history
Ten months and counting;

Early Times Report

Jammu, May 18: The last time people of Jammu region surfed high speed mobile internet was more than 280 days ago with gag competing 10 months in near future. For Jammuites, this is the longest ever internet gag witnessed in region’s history.
With the abrogation of Article 370, the unprecedented blackout of mobile and internet services was enforced in J&K on August 5, 2019. The central government only restored the cellular and 2G internet services on January 25. In Jammu where the situation has been peaceful since 370 abrogation has been reeling under unprecedented internet blackout for absolutely no fault. “While in Kashmir Valley the situation remains volatile and on the brink, it is unreasonable why the government has been snapping the internet services in both Kashmir as well as in Jammu. While one can understand the security concerns in Kashmir due to lifting of the internet gag, keeping the services snapped in Jammu goes beyond the reach of reason,” says an official. He added that while in scores of the review meetings it was found that Jammu has been absolutely peaceful and tranquil, there is no justification for keeping the high speed internet snapped for so long in the region.
Meanwhile, on social media too, those who are fortunate enough to have access to fixed internet connection express their disgruntlement over the blockade of mobile internet in Jammu. There are questions being raised over how could the government not even restore the 2G mobile internet for the Jammu subscribers when there are people in open complaining how the gag has been taking toll on their normal lives. Also those at the helm and those who claim to be representing Jammu’s aspirations seem to be tightlipped over the blockade of internet in Jammu where situation remained completely peaceful even after the abrogation of Article370 and downgrading of the state to a union territory.
According to the estimates of study, the present gag is longest ever in the history of the world with people in both the regions- Jammu as well as in Kashmir facing internet gag for more than 280 days.
Furthermore, the Cellular Operators Association of India an amalgam of GSM mobile players, had revealed that the overall telecom industry operating in the erstwhile state suffers the loss of Rs 2 crores on daily basis when the calling and data services are suspended
