Dejected Mujahid out to seek limelight again
To secure space in press, former Dy Mayor extends olive branch to scribes
5/20/2020 12:16:32 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 19: Dejected and dismayed by his fate, one-time Muhajid and former Srinagar Municipal Corporation’s deputy mayor, Sheikh Imran is once again out to score brownie points and grab public attention.
So far lost in oblivion, this former deputy mayor all of a sudden came out with a startling statement, trying to hoodwink the pen-pushers, seeking for them from the government a special package.
“Journalists are our COVID warriors who risk their lives to provide authentic information particularly during the ongoing coronavirus crisis where fake news has become a big challenge. We all should stand up to support them and pressure J&K administration to announce a special package for them,” he said in a statement.
Icing on the cake was that he even tried to copy NC vice President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah by spotting beard and sharing that picture of his with the press. “We were missing this erratic man quite terribly and now he is out again surprising us all with his bizarre and unnatural statements. He has now begun sharing his picture also while spotting beard. He is quite an entertainment,” says a scribe based in Srinagar.
Hilarious and amusing statements are more inseparable features of this new political entrant.
On February 28, last year, his inefficiency got exposed to the core when a simple official communication as per the routine was made by the Under Secretary with Chief Secretary to the Principal Secretary home department and asked him to examine and take appropriate action in the matter related to the application submitted by Sheikh Imran to ban PUBG in the state. This official communication was mistaken as a banning order by many people including the Deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran. While trying to grab the opportunity to steal limelight hurriedly drafted a press statement and claimed credit for the same.
The press statement had the headline: “After Deputy Mayor Intervention, PUBG banned in J&K.” The statement had quoted the deputy mayor in the punchline as having said ‘Our youth are our future and will not allow such things in our society which would affect their mental health.’
On December 28, last year, posing as an expert on Kashmir affairs, the deputy mayor could be seen sitting at ease on a sofa and sermonising the delegates about what should be done to resolve the ‘entangled’ Kashmir issue. While talking about the student exchange program, he says in the video that if a student from Kashmir goes to any other state within the country, he should not be ridiculed for saying Hindustan Murdabad. “Have a big heart and don’t get annoyed. What would happen even if a Kashmir youth chants Hindustan Murdabad. If we bear the insult of showing our identity card to a solider hailing from Tamil Nadu, what is wrong if our youth chants anti-India slogan,” says the deputy mayor in the video clip.
He even admitted that people in Kashmir don’t vote and that elections wouldn’t in any way resolve the Kashmir issue.
