Jammu, May 21: Redefining of domicile laws by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has bestowed deprived section of society in Jammu and Kashmir with a new sense of security. Discriminated and deprived of their fundamental and constitutional rights for decades, people belonging to West Pakistan, Valmikis, women marrying outside communities, non-registered Kashmiri migrants, displaced people are today feeling quite happy. Their joy knows no bounds. Expressing immense pleasure, a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits today met Lt Governor GC Murmu at Raj Bhawan and thanked him for taking care of their sentiments and aspiration by amending domicile law. They described the amendment in domicile law as a historic decision taken by Narendra Modi govt that will further consolidate and strengthen the idea of one India. “Every patriotic soul is feeling happy today. This amendment is beginning of the reversal of demographic change that Pakistan and its proxies initiated in the early ‘90s by forcing Kashmiri Pandits abandon their hearths and homes in Valley,” claimed Surinder Amberdar, former Member Legislative Council. Until abrogation of Art 370, Art 35 A of the constitution empowered the state assembly to define the J&K resident. As per state subject law, only J&K residents were eligible to apply for jobs or own movable properly in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. Representatives of various organizations of Kashmiri Pandit Community including Kashmiri Pandit Welfare Organizations and All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee on Thursday called on the Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu here at the Raj Bhavan. The members of these delegations termed the new Domicile Law of Jammu and Kashmir as historic. They also reiterated that the removal of Article 370 and Article 35A, which proved to be a stumbling block in the path of development, would take the UT to new heights of growth and development. While interacting with the members of the delegations, the Lt Governor observed that the new Domicile Law will ensure equitable, balanced and inclusive development of Jammu and Kashmir and its people. A delegation of Kashmiri Pandit Welfare Organizations headed by Dr KN Pandita comprising of ex-MLCs Surinder Ambardar and G.L Raina; KK Khosa, President Kashmiri Pandit Sabha Jammu; and several social activists put forth various welfare issues of Kashmiri Pandit community including simplification of voting process; speeding up of selection process under PM Package; transit accommodation for migrant employees etc. On being apprised of the issue of protection of shrines; the Lt Governor maintained that the Government has already taken up the issue to ensure the safety and security of the shrines and devotees. Meanwhile, the delegation of All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee led by its Chairman, Vinod Pandit comprising of Vijay Bakaya, former Chief Secretary and ex-MLC and Kuldeep Khoda, former DGP presented a cheque for Rs 1.75 lakhs to the Lieutenant Governor as a contribution to PM CARES Fund towards the efforts being undertaken to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The Lt Governor further assured the members of the delegations that Government of India and the UT Government is committed to addressing all the issues of J&K. “Policies of soft separatism adopted by these parties only shrunk their political space. Hope better sense prevails and they too adopt an inclusive approach and work for people of J-K,” said KK Khosa, another member of the delegation. Delegation members were all praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proactive policy vis a vis Kashmir. They appreciated the paradigm shift in the military and diplomatic strategy of the Indian Govt. “Unlike previous regimes, present govt is not apologetic about its stand on Kashmir.
