Bandipora, Handwara admin observe Anti-Terrorism Day | Three fresh recruits arrested from Kupwara | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, May 21: Anti-Terrorism day was observed across all the districts of Jammu & Kashmir and similarly in North Kashmir districts, the day was observed by pledging to fight all forms of terrorism and violence to promote peace and non-violence. Meanwhile, three youth who had joined militant ranks were arrested in Kupwara district. A police statement said that anti terrorism day was observed wherein the pledge was taken on while commemorating death anni versary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who was killed in a suicide attack in Tamil Nadu in 1991. Deputy Commissioner Bandipora took the pledge along with the participants to oppose with strength, all forms of terrorism and violence. The pledge ceremony was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Reyaz Ahmad Beigh, and Assistant Commissioner Development Abdul Rasheed Dass besides other senior officers of the district. Similarly, The National Anti Terrorism Day aiming to raise awareness about the anti social acts of terrorism, violence and its impact on human lives was today observed by Handwara police across the district. The main function was organized at DPL Handwara, where the officers and Jawans took a pledge to oppose all forms of terrorism and to fight the disruptive forces threatening human lives. Similar functions were organized at all Police Stations and Police Posts of the police district where jawans were administered pledge of peace, humanity and to promote unity among people. The objective behind the observance of Anti-Terrorism Day is to turn off the affections of people away from terrorism & violence and to generate awareness among all sections of people regarding global peace and non-violence. Meanwhile Police today claimed to have arrested three youths who had purportedly posted photographs on the social media holding guns and announced that they had joined militant ranks. A top police official said that on basis of specific information, a joint team of Police and army’s 28 RR launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Sogam, a forest area, a surveillance team started their tracking after which the trio was arrested who had recently joined LeT militant ranks. Huge cache of arms and ammunition including 3-AK 47 rifles, magazines and other war like store has been also recovered from their possession, and police registered a case and started investigation into the matter. Pertinently on Wednesday night, the pictures showing the trio holding weapons had gone viral on social media.
