Now BJP attempts to portray “Birthday celebration” as an event to honour Covid-19 warriors
6/1/2020 11:15:16 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 1: After facing criticism for organizing a birthday celebration party at PWD guest house Billawar that too at a time when Corona virus suspects have been increasing in Jammu province, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) local leadership has now attempting to portray the function as an event to honour frontline warriors on 30th May.
However, the D.O letter circulated on the Whattsapp groups and social networking sites by the local BJP leadership, have some glaring mistakes as the day on which the letter was written and the day on which it was marked by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Billawar have a correction to make it authentic.
Pertinently, Early Times in its June 1, 2020 edition carried a news story in which the BJP leaders from Billawar as well as Kathua were found felicitating and presenting gifts to a senior leader, without adhering to the Social distancing norms, which was explicitly clear from the photographs.
Moreover, in the same story, it was also explained that BJP leaders had also organized a meeting in the same guest house on 29th of May, in which senior party leaders from district Kathua unit were also present.
After facing criticism, the local BJP leadership on Monday attempted to portray the event, organized by them after getting permission from the Additional deputy Commissioner Billawar.
The DO letter issued by the President Municipal Committee Billawar is addressed to ADC Billawar, in which permission is sought to organize a meeting to honour COVID-19 warrior at PWD Guest House on 30/5/2020. However the date mentioned by President on his DO letter is 27/5/2020 but it was originally written as 28/5/2020 but later digit 8 was changed to 7 by overwriting but it is clear that it is changed. However, the DO letter bears signature with green ink pen with words “AEE PWD” along with signatures and
Follow-Up
ate, 27/5/2020. Sources claimed that the DO letter was actually issued after the matter came to media light. “It could be the case that the DO letter had date of 28th but was later rectified, when they found that ADC had mentioned 27th, so in order to make it authentic the date would have been changed to 27th”, sources said.
Moreover, it was yet unclear whether ADC had given the permission to organize the event or had forwarded the letter to AEE PWD for further action. “Talking to a news organization, the AEE had said that he had not issued any permission”, an official said. However repeated calls to AEE PWD Billawar didn’t elicit any response as he didn’t pick up his phone.
The ADC Billawar was once again not present for comments as his phone was again out of network coverage area.
Sources further said that even if the D.O. letter as well as the forward by ADC Billawar could be considered totally authentic, then another disparity again raises finger over the alleged goof-up by them. “The BJP had organized two meetings in the PWD guest house Billawar after 27th of May and if even the permission was granted that would be only for one event and the second event would have been organized without any permission”, an official said, adding that it was only to hush up the matter.
Moreover even if the COVID-19 warriors were honoured then there should be a list of the warriors so that the public would also be aware about the matter. “Even if permission was granted by ADC, was there no restrictions or health advisories for the BJP leaders, who had huddled for the photo-sessions with their masks hanging in their necks”, an official said, adding that it appeared that the entire exercise was to silent the criticism and the DO letter was issued only to save their skins under the garb of honouring COVID-19 warriors but lies are after all lies, and truth is truth.
